ABCs of GHGs: A Climate Change Overview Course
Climate change is the most serious environmental threat facing the world today. But ask someone what defines climate change, and the answer could be anything from global warming to the decline of local wine varietals. In continuing effort to educate professionals about climate change, including the full breadth of impacts, and prepare them to make decisions based on this awareness, The International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP) is offering a four-class workshop entitled Communicating the Case for Action on Climate Change.
The workshop will cover the history of carbon, including manmade and natural contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. It will explore the ramifications of climate change on ecosystems and ecosystem services, the human and social impacts, and the business risks and opportunities. Several case studies will focus on how to communicate the science, risks and opportunities associated with climate change. The workshop will feature a hands-on component enabling participants to develop a brief presentation for their own or other organizations.
Prospective attendees should note that understanding climate change is a fundamental aspect of understanding why other systems, such as energy efficiency, not only provide environmental and social benefits, but make business sense. “This course will help professionals increase their understanding of the full range of opportunities and risks associated with climate change,” said course instructor Indigo Teiwes, director of carbon for Earth Advantage Institute. “It will enhance their ability to make strategic decisions that competitively position their businesses.” Builders, appraisers, real estate professionals, internal sustainability positions, and green team members are just a few of the many professions who can benefit from this workshop.
Communicating the Case for Action on Climate Change is just one of many courses offered by the ISSP and qualifies for credits in ISSP’s certification program.
