Broker of the Month InterviewNovember 13, 2009 Earth Advantage Institute and Energy Trust of Oregon are pleased to present Hilary Bourassa as this issue's Broker of The Month. A successful graduate of the S.T.A.R. and REPTA programs, Bourassa's extensive list of accomplishments includes the sale of Portland's first LEED® for Homes Platinum certified home. She is an active proponent for green broker education and believes that it should be a fundamental requirement for broker training. Bourassa took time out of her busy schedule to speak with EAI. EAI: Have you had clients that specifically requested you because of your green certifications? HB: Energy efficiency and how they can save money through energy efficiency and water conservation. My client demographic really wants to learn about green living, so it's great to be able to confidently teach them what truly makes a home green. HB: It's been beneficial in many ways. But I would say that my certification as a green broker has been the most beneficial. People are so passionate about the environment. But with all the green washing that goes on, it can be difficult for clients to differentiate between the truly green brokers and the fakes. Conversations with clients always come back to my certifications. |
