Oregon’s Green building program engages HOME BUILDERS across state
Earth Advantage Institute Advises on New Incentives to Build Green
PORTLAND, Ore., July 16, 2009 -- Earth Advantage Institute, Oregon’s nonprofit resource for sustainable construction that has certified more than 11,000 homes, is crisscrossing the state as part of its first annual Green Tour for local home builder associations.
The tour is designed to inform builders and developers about the latest green building trends, new financial incentives for sustainable construction, and the positive impact of upcoming regional and national legislation. Earth Advantage Institute Executive Director Sean Penrith and staff experts presented to home builders’ associations in Salem, Roseburg, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls, Bend, and Corvallis. Presentations have attracted local audiences of more than 50 builders and home industry professionals at each event.
“With more than 240 Earth Advantage home builders regionally, and with staff in Bend and southern Oregon, we consider ourselves a statewide resource,” said Penrith. “Partnering with Oregon Home Builders Association and the local home builders’ associations to develop green building programs that serve their members is a priority for us.”
“We seek to provide our builder membership with new opportunities,” said Karen Zimmer, executive officer of the Home Builders Association of Josephine County. “Earth Advantage Institute has been a real ally, keeping us informed about how our builders and developers can build high performance homes that command a premium, and how they can differentiate their services.”
Earth Advantage Institute also used the tour to roll out its own new incentive program. The organization’s Member Benefit program is aimed at helping local associations increase membership and revenue through discounted home certification costs for builder members. A percentage of each home certification fee is also contributed to the participating association.
