EAI announces contract win for new Commercial Buildings programSeptember 10, 2008 PORTLAND, OR – Earth Advantage, Inc., (EAI) the Northwest’s premier service provider of green building programs in the residential market, is part of the team that has been awarded a contract from the Energy Trust of Oregon to administer a new commercial building program. EAI partnered with Portland Energy Conservation, Inc., (PECI), the lead project management contractor, along with SERA Architects and Nexant to win the contract formerly administered by SAIC.
The contract calls for the Earth Advantage® Small Commercial standard to promote energy efficiency and environmental measures in smaller commercial buildings (5,000 – 100,000 sq ft). The program will take into account building science fundamentals, integrated performance systems, health benefits, the use of sustainable building materials, energy and water efficiency, and a building’s carbon footprint.
The Earth Advantage® Small Commercial program is designed to promote sustainable building practices in the commercial sector through certification and education. Earth Advantage, Inc. helps owners, architects, designers, and contractors improve the sustainability of their projects by focusing on five key areas: energy efficiency, quality indoor environment, environmental responsibility, resource efficiency, and water conservation and stewardship. EAI programs tailor requirements and recommended measures to the needs of specific building types.
“There is an opportunity to cater to smaller scale projects since only 2% of commercial buildings are larger than 100,000 sq ft,” says Sean Penrith, executive director of Earth Advantage, Inc. “Our Small Commercial program is ideally suited for this market niche and it allows a streamlined approach for our clients.”
